At the start of lockdown, four radio amateurs started a weekly net to keep in touch as they couldn’t meet as usual. The first net was on 18 March 2020 and was so well-received it started running biweekly. The nets then became known as The Lancashire Lockdown Net. Hosting these nets were John McDonald, M6HBU; Mark Rothwell, M0XJR; Steve Ball, 2E0OTG; and Phil Willetts, 2E0DGP.

To keep things interesting, the group introduced some on-air games that have been a big success.

It also ran multiple special nets celebrating Lancashire Day, the birth of the NHS (75 years at the time)

, Get On The Air 2 Care, World mental health day etc, and were constantly working on fresh ideas to help ease the stresses, strains and loneliness of life during the pandemic.

Phil, 2E0DGP says: “We were very lucky to have shortwave listeners, returning licensees, new licence holders and local stations  who regularly check in with us, some have gone on to pass their Foundation exam as a result of the work we put in, both on and off the air.”

Due to the ever increasing member base, and the then up coming first north west radio camp which we host, the decision was made to take things a step further. Leyland and District Amateur Radio (LADAR) became an official radio club on the 4th of May 2021.

LADAR then became affiliated with the RSGB in November 2021 and opened the club doors for the first time on 2nd of March 2022.

The club meets in person every first and third Wednesday of the month at Chorley Sea Cadets from 7pm.

The club meets on air every second and forth Wednesday on 145.300+- from 7pm, non members very welcome
